Actor Rahul Roy is gaining confidence again and slowly returning to work in films. The actor suffered a brain stroke in 2020. However, he has worked hard on his recovery and has undergone several sessions of treatment. His sister Priyanka Roy, who goes by the name Hari Maa, has been his strength and was the first one to figure out something was off about his brother’s speech when he was working on a film set.

In 2020, Rahul Roy suffered a brain stroke, as he was busy for LAC — Live the Battle in Kargil. The actor and his sister recently sat down with Bollywood Hungama to talk about their journey and how he has been recovering ever since 2020. Recalling what had happened, Priyanka said, “On 23rd November, he called me and said ‘I am going for the shoot’. He was already in Ladakh for the past 3-4 at the time. He always calls me either morning or night. Even if I go somewhere, I am not a phone person, but my husband informs him that we are going somewhere. Both of them will make sure that we are in touch. I was calling him in the evening. Normally, he calls me before he goes to sleep. He always tells me how his day was and we always share those details with each other. He didn’t call that day. I thought something is not right. I called him up and he wasn’t able to talk to me properly. There is a medical term called fascia and normally people think it happens due to cold but even the production of words is not happening. The brain is not in coordination with your speech.”
She added, “At that time, he thought he was okay. He was very cool about it. He said that he is very tired and he never does that to me. I was like, ‘You are unable to talk only.’ He was like it feels like a cold. But, words were not properly formed and he was stammering. I gave him the night to rest.”
She further said, “I did 20-25 calls the next day and he didn’t pick up the call (laughs). Why am I laughing about this? I don’t have any anger towards the director now. I am laughing about the fact that this is normal and basic common sense. If our industry people or any kind of people around you, this is not something to ignore.”
Roy admitted that he was facing some issues with his speech. While on a call with his sister, she told him that she wanted to speak to the director, however, he wanted to complete the shoot. She said, “He (the director) picked up the call and said that he (Rahul) is fine and that he happened to be a doctor and director by passion. I told him ‘My brother is not well. Do you think we can [shoot later]?’ He said, ‘He is well. I am a doctor. You don’t have to teach me!’ And cut the call.”
Priyanka Roy said that it took her 4 days to get Rahul to Mumbai from Ladakh because neither he was ready to leave the shoot mid-way nor the team of the film weren’t ready. It was when a doctor in Kargil said that he may have a stroke because of the Fascia, she made the call again and ensured that her brother was back in Mumbai. She narrated in what condition Rahul Roy had come back from Kargil to Mumbai and how they needed cash in order to begin his treatment at Nanavati. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, they shifted him to Wockhart Hospital. The said director of his film was sending money for his treatment but turns out, it was the pending fees of Rahul Roy which she wasn’t aware of it as her brother was in a coma. “The director told a newspaper that he was helping Rahul Roy but that was my brother’s money.” She said that she did not go to any media or anything and her only concern was to save her brother because the hospital people said that they weren’t sure when Roy would be able to stand as he was in a coma.
